Teaching & Learning
At Dorchester Middle School, teaching and learning are centred around the belief that every child has the right to learn in an environment that prioritises their needs. The school is committed to putting pupils first, ensuring that each child receives the support and encouragement needed to thrive. Inclusive practices are at the heart of the school's approach, recognising and valuing the diverse backgrounds and abilities of all pupils. By fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, Dorchester Middle School ensures that every child feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
To further enhance our teaching practices, we use Tom Sherrington's "WalkThrus" book as the basis for our Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This book provides valuable insights into effective questioning and feedback techniques, practice and retrieval strategies, as well as fostering positive behaviour and relationships. By incorporating these methods, our teachers are equipped with the tools to create an engaging and supportive learning environment for all children.
One parent shared, "My child is so happy at DMS. She comes home and talks excitedly about her day at school and shares what she has learnt. I'm so pleased I sent my child to DMS." This feedback highlights the positive impact of our dedicated approach to education and the joy it brings to our pupils and their families.
